GOOD WORKS

Good business can do good.

Profit and purpose do not have to compete. A successful professional business can create value for clients and share part of that value with the wider community.

THE IMPACT MODEL

How the mechanism works.

These are the rules the practice sets itself. They are published so that what follows can be checked against them rather than taken on trust.

  1. STEP 01

    OUR WORK CREATES VALUE

Professional fees from client work fund the practice and its results.

  2. STEP 02

PART OF THAT VALUE IS SHARED

A fixed share of annual net fees is set aside at the close of each financial year, before any distribution to the shareholder.

  3. STEP 03

    GOOD PROJECTS RECEIVE SUPPORT

Projects are selected once a year against published criteria, with no support to entities connected to the practice or its clients.

  4. STEP 04

THE IMPACT GOES BEYOND OUR CLIENTS

Results are published here and updated as projects progress.

SELECTION CRITERIA

  • A stated objective that can be verified after the fact, not a general cause.
  • An organisation able to report on how the contribution was used.
  • A contribution large enough to matter to the project, rather than spread thinly.
  • No connection to the practice, its shareholder or its clients.
  • No support given in exchange for visibility, naming or commercial return.

RELATED INITIATIVE

Skill Donor

Our founder is co-founder of Skill Donor, a project dedicated to donating professional skills to non-profit organisations and social-impact initiatives. It is a separate initiative, and the same principle as our pro bono work: professional capacity is itself a form of contribution.

PRO BONO

Professional work, given.

Alongside financial support, part of the practice's professional capacity is made available at no cost to organisations that could not otherwise access this kind of advice.

  • A share of billable hours is reserved for pro bono matters each year and tracked in the same system as client work.
  • Eligible: non-profit organisations, social enterprises and cultural or research initiatives without the means to instruct advisers.
  • Pro bono matters are accepted, staffed and documented to the same professional standard as paid work.
  • No matter is accepted where it would create a conflict with a client engagement.
